There is a nice pair of adult eagles living outside the refuge.

This beautiful hawk circled a couple of times overhead so i did get some shots. Unfortunately I don't have enough zoom, so they are not great shots, but enough that someone around should hopefully be able to ID it

I was thinking red-tailed hawk, but I'm not sure. We also saw a hawk sitting on a dead tree - he was too far away for pics, but had markings very similar to a peregrine falcon. It was too big to be one of those though.

I thought this was a hawk of some sort, but from the face and the tummy feathers, I think it might be a Great Horned Owl......although what it would be doing hunting in mid day I don't know. The resident owls stay on their perches during the day, so perhaps this is a different one....or is it a hawk of some sort? More pics on their way

That's right, it was high noon too!!! I don't think it's one of the 2 that are nesting though - they stay by the nest when the refuge is open to people. So we must have more than just one pair. Spectacular birds!!

Just got a correction - the bird above is apparently a Female Northern Harrier - They look very different than the males - who have white on their tails
